So far I’m doing great on my quest for a medal a month! Here my medal for July from yesterday’s Half Iron. My bib has a red sticker because I participated in a study about carb intake and GI distress. That was pretty cool. I reported all of my nutrition intake the day before the race and then they tracked it during the race. Then they asked throughout the run how I was feeling. My entrance fee was discounted by half for participating and it was nice to give back to the sport a little bit. I’ll write another post in the next couple of days about the study and my take on carbs during race day.
Mike and I are registered for our August medal race, The Gopher to Badger Half Marathon on August 10th. I’ve done this race twice before and it’s really fun. The race starts in Stillwater, Minnesota and then you run across the border and end in Hudson, Wisconsin. They have a little rivalry where the states compete for the most entrants. If you live in this area, give this race a try! It’s challenging with some rolling hills as well as a few big hills, but it’s unique and both Stillwater and Hudson are adorable little towns. It’s great to walk around either one a bit after the race and do a little shopping or get lunch before the drive back home. I’ll be using the race for training, so no PR’s or pushing myself that day. I’m really looking forward to a race for fun!
